Chinese female billiards star Pan Xiaoting has been elected as image ambassador for the first Qinghai Lake Electric Vehicle International Challenge Competition to be held in mid June.
The event is to be held in Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, on June 10-13, 2014.
At a press conference in Beijing on May 10, Luo Yulin, executive vice governor of Qinghai, said the province is the world's largest lithium resource base and the competition is aimed at further promoting the development of the industry.
The competition will play a good supporting role to another event, the 15th Qinghai Trade Talks, also to be held June 10-13 with the theme of "open cooperation and green development," he said.
Luo said the competition would be held regularly in the future and would become an important brand activity and a reason to visit the province.
It will consist of two parts -- exhibition and experience evaluation. The former will mainly consider the operation of electric vehicles and their control performance, while the latter will focus on their popular appeal.
So far, more than 10 well-known automobile companies have registered to take part in the event.
Cai Rangtai, vice director of the competition organizing committee, said that the event would promote the concept of "green living, energy saving and environmental protection" to drive the development of electrical vehicles and related industries.
A series of international forums on electrical automobiles will also be held during the event to examine policy making, global development trends and related industrial chains, he added.
Pan also spoke at the press conference. She proposed calling for all the visitors to travel in electric vehicles to reduce emissions and protect the environment.
Pan, 32, is the first professional pool player from China to play full time on the Women's Professional Billiard Association tour. Pan's beauty and growing achievements in billiards have made her one of the most famous female athletes in China.
